The Lifts Are Turning

It’s 4pm and the sun is slowly setting over the Elk range. In a matter of minutes the mountains will turn a bright pink, the best. After opening day at the mountain, the town has come back to life. This means more cars, pedestrians, dogs, children and laughter - all spawning the reopening of downtown businesses. While I LOVE the job I have now, working at Izzy’s, a small breakfast/lunch/bakery joint in town, the average Crested Butte resident works 3 to 4 jobs. I need another. After my neighbor, Joni, and I tallied up a total of 33 food-oriented establishments on and around the main street in town, I was hit by a much-needed boost of confidence and motivation.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Mount Crested Butte, making for a wild opening day! The lift lines were long, but also loud, boisterous and bright. If you owned a onsie, you were wearing it. As for the open, ski-able terrain, it was much like any opening day back home, with slightly better coverage and flawless grooming. After a few days cruising down some corduroy, and a pre-season, early morning skin up the mountain, the season is upon us and it feels fantastic!

...and a taste of Halloween in CB!
